House of Economics considers Palm Oil Bill

19 August 2011

The Truth in Labelling Palm Oil Bill is now entering its next phase of the parliamentary process with the House of Economics Committee conducting another inquiry for the mandatory labelling of palm oil.

The inquiry was held in Canberra on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th August. Cameron Kerr (CEO, Taronga Zoo) and Jenny Gray (CEO, Zoos Victoria) represented Australian zoos and presented evidence on behalf of the Australian zoo community.

It is becoming increasingly apparent that more and more Australian consumers want palm oil labelled and despite the outcome of this current Bill, we will continue to support and drive a market for the use of Certified Sustainable Palm Oil in grocery products.

Depending on the results tabled by the Committee, the Bill may then be introduced for debate in Parliament.
