Lady Potter Names Baby Hippo
Lady Potter AC, Trustee of the Ian Potter Foundation has named Werribee Open Range Zoo’s new baby hippo.
Lady Potter announced the name on a special visit to Werribee Open Range Zoo yesterday where she spent some time with the cheeky, two month-old calf and mum Brindabella.
In keeping with the floral theme of the hippo group which includes Primrose, Tulip and Lotus, the youngster has been named Pansy.
Lady Potter is a long-standing supporter of Zoos Victoria and The Ian Potter Foundation has shown significant philanthropic support for Zoos Victoria’s conservation and education programs, awarding the organisation more than one million dollars in the last five years.
It’s not the first time that Lady Potter has enjoyed a close encounter with a hippopotamus at Werribee Open Range Zoo. More than twenty years ago, Lady Potter sponsored the hippopotamus Primrose.
Lady Potter continues to pay regular visits to Primrose or as she affectionately calls her Primrose 'Potamus and was delighted to meet the latest addition to the group, Pansy.
In naming the new calf, Lady Potter drew inspiration from the shape of Pansy flowers.
“I wanted to stick with the flower theme and the curved petals of a Pansy are rather like a hippopotamus muzzle”’, Lady Potter said.
Pansy and her mum Brindabella are currently on public display at Werribee Open Range Zoo.
