Students create resources for schools in Zimbabwe
Werribee Open Range Zoo was recently visited by Year 7 and 8 students from local school, MacKillop Catholic Regional College. The students learnt all about animal poaching through role-play in the educational program.
Realising the importance of education in assisting African communities and their wildlife, the students decided to participate in our action program Conservation Connections - Zimbabwe.
They spent Term 4 of 2009 creating a range of wonderful educational resources to send across to Zimbabwean schools, which will be used by educators in schools managed by our partners, the Tikki Hywood Trust.
Along with the educational aids and materials, the students raised funds to buy new gardening tools which will be used in the Zimbabwe schools' market gardens, to provide food for the local families.
Through their efforts, the students were able to connect to a global issue and contribute to tangible positive actions by working within their local school community. If you would like to get your school involved in Conservation Connections – Zimbabwe, please contact Emily Dunstan by email (email@example.com).
