Following another fantastic Rhythm of African season at Werribee Open Range Zoo, we'll be taking the opportunity to rennovate our stage area, with a new roof and upgrades to the back of house facilities from late February to mid-March.

Lion cubs make their debut

Werribee Open Range Zoo’s four ten-week old Lion cubs will make their debut this week.

Born on 13 December 2016, the youngsters spent the first few critical weeks with mum Nairibi in the privacy of a special nesting den, with staff monitoring the new family via CCTV cameras.

Werribee Open Range Zoo’s seven-week old Lion cubs have marked another milestone, with their first health check.

Vets and Keepers were able to weigh and examine each of four cubs and determine their sex – two girls and two boys.

There are some new faces on the savannah at Werribee Open Range Zoo, with the team welcoming the arrival of seven Eland calves during the last month.

Found across Southern Africa, Eland are Africa’s largest species of antelope, with males weighing between 400 – 1,000kg.
