Pure joy as bubble frenzy kicks off summer at Victorian Zoos

22 November 2019

Animals and bubbles – it’s a recipe that makes for some undeniable fun!

As the weather warms up ahead of an anticipated steamy summer, animals of all shapes and sizes at Melbourne Zoo, Werribee Open Range Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary are getting immersed in a ‘bubble frenzy’.

Zookeepers have been blowing bubbles for animals this week, and the animals’ reactions need to be seen to be believed.

From Ostriches nibbling at the bubbles, penguins catching them on their beaks, to gleeful trumpeting from the herd of Asian Elephants – the joyful responses have been aplenty.

The bubble frenzy is just a sneak peek at what to expect at the Zoo this summer with a variety of water play activities set to sweep across all three zoos for both animals and visitors alike.

Summer at the Zoo is the coolest place to be and kicks off this Saturday (November 23), with bubbles, spritzing, misting and soaking set to be a key feature of many adventurous, fun-filled water play experiences.

The bubble frenzy is just a sneak peek at what to expect at the Zoo this summer with a variety of water play activities set to sweep across all three zoos for both animals and visitors alike.

Zoo members and visitors are invited to bring their bathing suits, keep cool and beat the heat this season in the unforgettable surroundings of the zoos.

The water play and bubbly fun at each Zoo will also serve a dual purpose – aiming to raise awareness about Zoos Victoria’s conservation initiative that encourages people to replace outdoor balloons with wildlife-friendly alternatives

The bubbles are just one of many ways in which zookeepers provide safe and sensory enrichment for the animals. This plays an important role in animal care by keeping their minds and bodies active and stimulated.

As always, as a not-for-profit organisation, all proceeds from entry to each Zoo will go to towards Zoos Victoria’s efforts to fight extinction.
