Cool off this summer at Werribee Open Range Zoo’s Hippo Beach.
Stand under fountains and splash through water jets in our water play zone. You will notice a new addition to the space that allows you to change the ebb and flow of the water through a series of wooden channels, pumps and weirs. Plus, you can spin the wheel and spray family and friends with water from the hippo’s bottom… if you dare!
Take time out to relax in hammocks and deckchairs and watch hippos snoozing nearby on the bank. Plus grab a cold drink or ice-cream at Hippo Beach café.
You can also catch our special Hippo Keeper Talk. See the hippos up close from the boardwalk while learning about these amazing animals and the threats they face in the wild.
During your visit, you can also help improve the lives of the people and animals of northern Kenya through a unique, community-based program called Beads for Wildlife.
Remember, kids under 16 are free every weekend, Victorian Government school holidays and public holidays!
Please note: The water play area is activated when temperatures reach 25 degrees celsius or above. Please feel free to ask our Admission staff when you arrive if the water play area will be turned on that day.
- Book a Family Off-Road Safari to get off the beaten trail.
- Stay overnight with a Slumber Safari experience.
- Find your African beat at Rhythm of Africa.
