Has your child ever wondered what it would be like to be a zoo keeper or a vet? Do they love animals?
In our Keeper Kids indoor playspace, kids can immerse themselves in role-play and exploration. Our fun range of activities is designed to stimulate the imagination and nurture a connection with the natural world.
Keeper Kids is open every day, 9am–4pm.
The Keeper Kids experience
There is a host of great dress-ups and props to enhance the experience, including binoculars, stethoscopes, and a variety of plush toy animals.
Kids will learn about the range of duties that go along with working at the zoo, find out about the diets of different animals and prepare mock meals for various species.
They can see what it’s like to be a zoo veterinarian, a horticulturalist looking after the zoo’s gardens and exhibits, or a researcher working on conservation projects.
The veterinary area includes a range of animal X-rays displayed on light boxes, to highlight some of the challenging cases the zoo has worked on.
The X-rays include an image of an endangered Lord Howe Island Stick Insect, showing her developing eggs, and an image of a turtle which had swallowed a hook and line.
Kids can dress up as researchers and focus on how conservation projects are planned and carried out. They will get to weigh and measure a variety of animals.
The horticulture zone offers garden-focused fun, including potting up plants. Kids will see how important the gardens are to the zoo – both inside and outside the exhibits.
