Research Theme: Community conservation and visitor engagement
For many decades, the zoo industry has invested in research to understand the relationship between animal encounters and the visitor experience.
Public expectations of the ‘zoo experience’ continue to evolve, and Zoos Victoria recognises there is a need to better understand how people’s attitudes and, more importantly, behaviours can be influenced by a zoo experience - (this includes a physical visit to one of our three zoos, engaging with Zoos Victoria on-line or by being involved in Zoos Victoria's community awareness campaigns).
Inspiring conservation behaviours in our visitors and the community is now a central element of Zoos Victoria’s Strategic Plan and research into this area is needed to ensure our programs are as effective as possible.
