World first Platypus experience at Healesville Sanctuary

10 January 2013

Yesterday was an exciting day at Healesville Sanctuary with the launch of the brand new ‘Tales from Platypus Creek’ precinct.

In a world first, visitors will have the chance to see the Platypus in a unique riverside tank environment in Healesville Sanctuary’s brand new amphitheatre.

The new Tales from Platypus Creek presentation gives visitors the chance to see the Platypus up close, as well as some of their special animal friends including water rats, turtles and eels.

Healesville Sanctuary is one of only two institutions to have recorded breeding successes with the Platypus, with the birth of twins Birrarung and Alooka last year adding to this record.

The presentation is included free with entry to Healesville Sanctuary. There are shows each day at 11.30am and 2.00pm (note that there is limited seating so please book at admissions as soon as you arrive).

In a world-first, visitors will also have the chance to Wade with the Platypus, which can be booked as an additional experience.
