We will focus on five action areas as we work towards our goal of becoming the world’s leading zoo-based conservation organisation.
We will focus and strengthen the conservation efforts of Zoos Victoria to ensure the delivery of tangible conservation outcomes.
Conservation is at the heart of what we do at Zoos Victoria.
We design our every project, program and operation to deliver concrete conservation outcomes.
Both wildlife conservation and community conservation are our focus.
We will establish Zoos Victoria as one of the leading organisations for creating net gains in conservation by ensuring every species in our collection has conservation relevance.
We will work to become a world leader in animal care and wellbeing. We will actively advocate for the conservation of wildlife.
We will only work with animals who can be categorised in the following five ways:
We will provide innovative wildlife-based recreation and learning experiences that inspire and facilitate visitors to take conservation actions that make a measurable and positive difference.
We will involve visitors and the community in the important work of protecting the environment and threatened species. The encounters visitors have with us will inspire and enable them to take conservation actions that make a positive difference to wildlife.
We acknowledge our responsibility to engage with communities that experience socio-economic disadvantage, and we will develop meaningful partnerships and programs to foster social inclusion.
We will support our staff’s development to ensure they, and the organisation as a whole, can transform Zoos Victoria into a zoo-based conservation organisation.
We will invest in and nurture the very best skills and qualities of our staff and partners.
By engaging with and including our people, we will encourage strong leadership and clearer staff roles and responsibilities.
We will seek out and engage with partners who share our vision and collaborate with them to achieve mutually agreed conservation outcomes.
We will protect and celebrate areas of cultural significance, and value and grow our Indigenous relationships.
We will ensure the long-term financial sustainability of all our operations to be able to maintain and improve the value of assets and make meaningful and measurable investment in conservation.
We will actively seek out additional sources of revenue to grow our business by:
Surpluses will be invested to deliver increased conservation gains.
