There’s always something to see and do, no matter what the weather, but here are some helpful tips for when it’s really hot, raining or really cold.
Please be aware that indoor spaces are closed, keeper talks are suspended, catering is take-away only, and Spirits of the Sky is not running. Learn more by reading our FAQs
We anticipate to increase capacity and open these facilities on 5 November, in line with the Victorian Government Roadmap. To avoid disappointment, we encourage you to consider waiting to visit until this time.
Pack your beanies and scarves, the Sanctuary is a great place to visit on cold days when it’s a little quieter. There are also some places you shouldn’t miss:
- The Reptile House
- The Nocturnal House
- Land of Parrots
When you’re ready to warm up inside, head over to the Australian Wildlife Health Centre to see the vets in action or Future Vets to dress up and role-play caring for animals.
You can avoid the crowds on rainy days while also seeing lots of animals play in the rain. If you want to stay out of the rain, visit these under-cover exhibits or play spaces:
- The Reptile House
- Echidnas (next to Koala Forest)
- Pouch House
- Australian Wildlife Health Centre
- Nocturnal House
- Harvest Cafe
Don’t forget to head inside to Future Vets for some play time too!
Ponchos and umbrellas are available in the retail shop.
Many Australian animals are known for thriving in the heat, make sure you don’t miss seeing these animals in their natural environment:
Find Sanctuary at the Sanctuary under our misters on our Koala Picnic and Australian Wildlife Health Centre lawns!
Find relief from the heat in the Platypus House, Reptile House, Future Vets and the Australian Wildlife Health Centre or the Nocturnal House.
Take a break and grab an ice-cream or cold drink and enjoy in air conditioned comfort at Harvest Café. There are also water refill stations around the Sanctuary to keep hydrated.
