Getting to Melbourne Zoo by public transport is easy!
We encourage all our visitors to catch public transport and help the environment by reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. It also saves time finding and paying for parking.
Route 58 between West Coburg and Toorak runs via William Street in the city centre every day, with services as often as every 6 minutes, stopping directly outside Melbourne Zoo at Stop 26. Make sure you travel safely on board!
Trains run from Flinders Street Station on the Upfield line every day, stopping at Melbourne Zoo’s own Royal Park Station.
Bus route 505 from Moonee Ponds to Melbourne University stops outside Melbourne Zoo.

Travelling from Regional Victoria
V/Line trains run from Geelong and Warrnambool, Ballarat, Maryborough and Ararat, Bendigo, Swan Hill and Echuca, Seymour, Shepparton and Albury, as well as Traralgon, Sale and Bairnsdale
The V/Line Family Traveller ticket allows each adult to take up to two children aged between four and 16 at no extra cost during off-peak times, including weekends. And, at Melbourne Zoo, admission is free for children under 16 years every weekend!
Melbourne Zoo is located only minutes north from the city centre, within Royal Park, and a quick drive from Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine).
The Zoo’s address is Elliott Avenue, Parkville 3052. Its Melways reference is 43 E1.
Car parking costs $2 for a five hour ticket. Please check that your parking ticket is correctly displayed on your dashboard before leaving your car, as the area is regularly monitored by City of Melbourne parking officers.
Overflow parking areas are opened as necessary to cater for peak demand. These areas also require the purchase and correct display of a parking ticket.
Please note: Limited car parking is available at Melbourne Zoo during school holiday and public holiday periods. Please follow signage and instructions from parking attendants to find available car parks. We appreciate your patience on busy days as we try to get you parked and into the zoo as quickly as possible.
Melbourne City Sightseeing runs a hop-on, hop-off service which services Melbourne Zoo 10 times daily. Pick up points are located throughout the city, including Federation Square, and Carlton.
There is a pick up point located at the Main Entrance of Melbourne Zoo on Elliott Avenue.
A 24 hour ticket for an adult is $35 or $15 for a child.
A Melbourne Zoo to Melbourne city one-way ticket is $10 for an adult or child.
No bookings are necessary.
