Apply STEM thinking to real conservation problems facing wildlife today.
This Levels 5-6 Science and Design & Technologies program builds STEM capability through real-world conservation challenges, using creativity, problem-solving and Design Thinking. Students research a specific conservation challenge, then return to school to work in teams to design, prototype and test a solution. There’s an opportunity to share their ideas with zoo staff through Zoos Victoria’s Padlet.
Students will learn
- Animal features and habitats
- How scientists and zoo keepers use STEM in conservation
- STEM skills including scientific observation, engineering and Design Thinking
- Creative thinking and problem-solving skills

This program is delivered at Healesville Sanctuary, Kyabram Fauna Park, Melbourne Zoo and Werribee Open Range Zoo, with each offering a different focus and experience.
