Plan your visit
Thank you for choosing Zoos Victoria as a learning destination. You will find everything you need here to plan your excursion at one of our three properties.
Our inspiring education programs are included with your admission price at no extra cost and support the Victorian Curriculum and the VEYLDF.
Self-guided excursions means you and your students can choose your own adventure and wander the zoo at your leisure.
In order to adhere to Victorian State Government contact tracing guidelines for education groups attending excursion venues, Zoos Victoria require groups to provide details of all attending students to a Zoos Victoria excursion.
All school groups will be required to send through attending class lists using the Department of Education and Training Excursion attendance form for contact tracing. Please send you student list through to firstname.lastname@example.org at least 48 hours prior to your excursion date. All details and information will be stored securely by Zoos Victoria and held for a 28 day period before being deleted.
If a student list is not provided ahead of your excursion you will be required to provide attendance list at admissions point ahead of entry. So please come prepared and try to submit your list in advance to have a faster entry for you and your student group.

You can also collect a printed map. In the interest of sustainability and waste minimisation, we recommend maps be used by the adults leading the excursion.
Staff and volunteers are also available to help you find your way around the Zoo.
You can also find specific program maps on your chosen guided program page.
Our animal experiences allow time for discussing and observing animals, interpreting their behaviours and considering their wellbeing. Students can get close to the animals, but we ask that no-one touches the zoo wildlife during these experiences. It's safer and more relaxing for everyone that way!
Zoos Victoria's philosophy for animal welfare provides animals with choices. When we develop animal visitor experiences, our animals have the choice to participate or not, which supports positive animal welfare outcomes.
For more information please go to Zoos Victoria's Guiding Principles for Animal Experiences.
Our terms and conditions of entry apply. Please consider the following guidelines:
• Children and students remain the responsibility of the teacher at all times
• Groups are asked to move through the Zoo respectfully and consider animals and members of the public
• Students and adult helpers should understand the needs of the animals and behave accordingly – loud noises and sudden movements can upset the animals. For this reason, ball games and whistles are not permitted
• At the Healesville Sanctuary Shop, six students may enter at a time with a supervising teacher. Please leave student bags outside
• Zoo staff have emergency management systems in place to handle missing students and first aid and medical emergencies.
Accessibility and mobility
