Investigate the real impacts of tourism through a zoo-based conservation organisation.

This VCE Geography Unit 2 program uses Zoos Victoria as a case study to explore the environmental, economic and socio-cultural impacts of tourism at different locations and scales. Through on-site fieldwork and behind-the-scenes insights into organisational operations and strategy, students collect and analyse primary data to evaluate how tourism impacts are managed and how visitors can be influenced to support wildlife conservation.

Students will learn
  • Tourism impacts at different locations and scales
  • How to collect, sort, process and represent primary data and other information
  • How to evaluate the effectiveness of management strategies in relation to environmental sustainability, economic viability and socio-cultural value
