Totally rad echidna reaches 40 year milestone
It was 1985: Live Aid was uniting the globe, hair was BIG and shoulder pads even bigger, it was also the year a young echidna named Snoopy arrived at Healesville Sanctuary. Orphaned and unable to return to the wild, she has been living out her days in the bushland haven, waddling around and inspiring generations to connect with native animals. Her remarkable longevity is a testament to the care she receives at the Sanctuary. Echidnas have been known to live up to 50 years in a zoo setting, compared to 14-40 years in the wild. It is believed their low body temperature and slow metabolism help them live longer too.

Cool off this summer at Healesville Sanctuary!
Escape the heat in our refreshing cool zones. Dip your feet in the fresh mountain waters at Iuk/Eok Eel Creek Play, relax on the grassy banks of Coranderrk Creek, or splash in the Poorneet Creek Play interactive paddle pool for toddlers.
Plus, enjoy fun water play at Corroboree Frog Nature Play and cool down with our refreshing misters for an extra burst of chill.

Alvey Takes a Summer Dip
Alvey the Osprey has been enjoying a summer swim after a stint at Healesville Sanctuary’s Raptor Rehab Centre. The impressive fishing hawk has been spreading his wings in the custom-designed facility, which forms a 100-metre loop, helping him maintain his flight fitness and health.
The specialised care supports Alvey as he continues to soar and dive in the Spirits of the Sky presentation.
