A non-curriculum aligned program for students to learn about Australian animals, their needs, and how to care for them.

Program description

This program offers a unique experience for students to engage with animals and learn about their care. The program addresses the needs of students through adaptive teacher-led activities and student-led exploration and can be adapted for students Foundation-Year 10. 

Students will learn:

  • Animal classification 
  • Animal habitats and needs 
  • How to care for animals

Before your visit

Connect 

Use the activities in the Teaching Guide (below) to spark students curiosity before their zoo visit. 

During your visit

Connect and Understand 

Foundation to Year 2  
Students will learn about the needs of animals and how we can care for them. Students are encouraged to emotionally connect with, develop empathy and respect for animals and nature.  

Year 3 to 10  
Students will build independence, challenge themselves, and look deeper into wildlife conservation at the park. Students will have access to several biological artefacts to allow them to connect, compare and problem solve.  

Your Park visit will include: an introduction to the day, Zoo Teacher workshop (30 minutes), and a self-guided walking trail. Check out your Teaching Guide for other ideas of what to do at the Park.  

After your visit

Understand 

Use activities in the Teaching Guide to deepen students’ learning back at school. 

Act 

Use the Teaching Guide to enable students to master their knowledge and skills in real-world contexts.

This program is an outdoor all-weather program; the students will need appropriate clothing for weather conditions. This could include a raincoat, hat and sun protection. 

School groups will enter Kyabram Fauna Park via the Main entrance. Organising teachers please check with in with our Admissions team upon arrival. More Information.
