Weather guide

There’s always something to see and do, no matter what the weather, but here are some helpful tips for when it’s really hot, raining or really cold.

Cold days

Pack your beanies and scarves, the zoo is a great place to visit on cold days when it’s a little quieter. There are also some places you shouldn’t miss:

  • Australian Trail
  • Bandicoot Hideout
  • Vervet Monkeys
  • Lions
  • Safari Bus Tour - Giraffes, Zebras, Rhinos and more

When you’re ready to warm up inside, head over to Ranger Kids for some games of dress up and stories to read.

Rainy days

You can avoid the crowds on rainy days while also seeing lots of animals play in the rain. If you want to stay out of the rain, visit these under-cover exhibits or play spaces:

  • Bandicoot Hideout
  • Gorillas
  • Safari Bus Tour - Giraffes, Zebras, Rhinos and more
  • Vervet Monkeys
  • Lions

Don’t forget to head inside to Ranger Kids for some play time too!

Hot days

Many African animals are known for thriving in the heat, so visiting them on a hot day isn’t a problem. Make sure you don’t miss:

  • Lions
  • Hippos
  • Vervet Monkeys
  • Giraffes
  • Zebras
  • Rhinos
  • Antelope

If you need a break from the heat, head to Ranger Kids for some fun outside of the sun and don’t forget to pick up an ice cream from one of the zoo shops.

When it’s more than 25 degrees, the water play area at Hippo Beach is open on so remember to pack your bathers.
